Solventborne adhesives are adhesives in which volatile organic compounds
are the major solvent or dispersant. The main solvents used for adhesive systems
are heptane, toluene, n-butyl acetate, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, naphtha, mineral
spirits and methylene chloride.
There are three main types of Solvent-based adhesives: Solvent borne Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (mainly based on styrenic block copolymers, natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber and acrylic polymers), Solvent borne Non-Pressure sensitive Adhesives (mainly based on SBR or butyl rubber) and Solvent borne Contact Adhesives (mainly based on polychloroprene rubber).
