Derek Bamborough

Derek Bamborough entered the field of rheology in 1987 with the company Hercules B.V. in the Netherlands and pioneered the development and use of DMA as a technical and marketing tool for adhesives, chewing gums and automobile tyres. In 1991 he received the best paper award at TAPPI conference in the USA for a study predicting the performance of book-binding adhesives using DMA parameters.

In 1992 he furthered his career in Switzerland with the company Collano AG as R&D manager. DMA techniques were used to reduce the time to market for new developments. He also gave DMA & adhesive seminars both in Europe and the USA together with the late Don Satas (PSA Technology). In 1999, Derek moved to Eastman Chemical developing website technical tools, in particular a DMA tool to predict adhesive performance. Thereafter in 2007 he worked in the PSA label and tape industry in Sweden and Germany.

Derek is highly experienced in the practical issues facing developers and has special expertise to relate visco-elastic properties to practical performance. Derek has presented many papers at various conferences worldwide about the use of DMA. Derek now holds the position of product development and applications technology manager at ATP adhesive systems AG in Wollerau, Switzerland.
