Airflex 430 vinyl chloride, ethylene, vinyl acetate terpolymer Air Products Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) Ethylene copolymers - emulsions (VAE, EVC) >> Vinyl Acetate Ethylene copolymers, VAE Airflex 430 emulsion is a vinyl chloride, ethylene, vinyl acetate terpolymer that can be used as a base for a wide variety of adhesives. Because a major constituent is vinyl chloride, it can be used in fire-retardant adhesives. Airflex 430 emulsion shows strong adhesion to metals, as well as to many plastic films and foams. The emulsion provides clear, tough films that have outstanding water and alkali resistance. Compounding Airflex 430 emulsion is compatible with a wide variety of compounding ingredients. It is mechanically stable over a wide pH range. Airflex 430 emulsion blends very readily with other Airflex emulsions, with Flexbond® vinyl acetate copolymer emulsions and with Vinac® vinyl acetate homopolymer emulsions. Airflex 430 emulsion will accept high levels of clay, calcium carbonate or other fillers. A high filler acceptance allows exterior sealer/adhesives to be easily created. It is compatible with most common plasticizers. Acceptable classes of plasticizers are butyl benzyl phthalate, benzoate esters, phosphate esters and sulfonamides. It can be thickened with hydroxyethyl cellulose, inverse acrylic emulsion thickeners, associative thickeners and watersoluble acrylics. It contains chlorine in the polymer backbone and can be used to create fire-retardant adhesives and lagging cements with good adhesion to a wide variety of surfaces. Applications: Due to the presence of chlorine in the polymer backbone, Airflex 430 emulsion finds use in fireretardant adhesives and coatings. Its excellent MVTR barrier properties make it an ideal starting point for moisture vapor barrier coatings. It has good weathering characteristics and filler-loading capabilities, making it useful in exterior mastics, caulks and sealers.
