This emulsion is analogous to P-03 Resin, which is a tackifying resin provided to the contact adhesive market. This system has been specially formulated to be compatible with high pH polychloroprene latices. Compatibility with other elastomer latices can be determined by slowly adding the resin to the latex. The most important influence on whether systems are compatible is pH. The primary use of W-10003 Resin is for the enhancement of tack in aqueous systems. W-10003 Resin is supplied as an aqueous emulsion with a fine particle size. It can be blended with latices which have a high pH without coagulation. Although this is supplied as an aqueous system, there is some cosolvent in the form of a glycol ether. It is recommended that zinc oxide and an antioxidant be included in formulations made with this material. Best results will be noted where pressure can be applied to the assembled pieces after coating with adhesive. The use of heat can also improve the bonding process. The open time of adhesives made with W-10003 Resin is usually up to 90 minutes.
