Luphen D DS 3459 Polyurethane BASF PU - Polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) ADHESIVE >> Water-based >> Contact adhesive The Luphen® D DS 3459 is used to manufacture film-to-film laminating adhesives. The dispersion has excellent adhesion to Corona treated films and aluminium foils. It can also be used to formulate adhesives for "boil in the bag" applications when modified with 2-5% Basonat® P LR 8878 (water dispersible polyisocyanate). The time during which the dispersion being crosslinked must be used is governed greatly by the pH, temperature and the additives. This must be determined by experiments. The final bond strength is achieved after approximately five days at room temperature. The foam formation, wetting power and other properties of Luphen® D DS 3459 can be adjusted with various additives to suit local operating conditions. Its adhesion to different surfaces can also be modified by means of additives. If Luphen® D DS 3459 is to be modified, i.e., thickened or mixed with other products, the pH value of the components with which it is mixed should not be lower than 8, as otherwise a coagulate may be formed. For the same reason, fully deionized water must be used. For modifying Luphen® D DS 3459, only anionic dispersions or dispersions containing a protective colloid can be used. All equipment (containers, pipes, etc) that comes into contact with Luphen® D DS 3459 must be made of corrosion-resistant material, e.g., stainless steel or plastics, in order to avoid the formation of coagulate.
