Unicid Carboxylic acid Baker Petrolite Adhesion Promoters ADHESIVE Carboxylic Acids - UNICID® Acid The Polymers Division of Baker Petrolite manufactures UNICID Carboxylic Acid, with carbon chains lengths of C24 to C50 that are much longer than those of conventional acids. Because the carbon chains are fully saturated and completely linear, UNICID Acids exhibit very narrow molecular weight distributions. UNICID Acids produced display 80% carboxylic acid functionality; the remainder is a linear, low molecular weight polyethylene with a chain length that is similar to that of the carboxylic acid. The combination of the carboxylic functionality and long hydrocarbon chain give UNICID Acids from Baker Petrolite unique solubility and compatibility characteristics. Melt points of UNICID Acids products are in the range 88°C to 110°C. Primary carboxylic acid Compatibility with polar polymer systems Dispersible in water Co-emulsifier Reactive sites for derivatives Long linear carbon backbone Compatible with hydrocarbons Solvent resistance in coatings Film former in water-in-oil emulsions Hard Controlled Mw and narrow MWD Controllable melting point Low melt viscosity UNICID Acids can provide unusual performance parameters, such as greater lipophilic compatibility, increased high-temperature stability, improved attraction to polar materials, and low odor and volatility. UNICID Acids from Baker Petrolite are used in a wide range of industrial applications and can also be readily used to produce derivatives with longer chains than have been previously possible. These include esters, amides, imidazolines, amines, and salts that are subsequently incorporated into a variety of end-use applications: Adhesion and/or compatibility promoters in plastics and adhesives Pulp and paper process defoamers Lubricants in textile and latex processing applications Protector and gloss enhancers in polishes Additives for toners Intermediate in the manufacture of esters and resins Linear carboxylic acid. Used as an adhesion and a compatibility promoter in adhesives. Possesses full saturation, long carbon chain length, very narrow molecular weight distribution. Offers compatibility with polar polymer systems and hydrocarbons. Provides great lipophilic compatibility, increased high-temperature stability, improved attraction to polar materials, and low odor and volatility. Several grades: Chain lengths of C24 to C50.
