Elvanol 70-06 Polyvinyl alcohol DuPont Polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) ADHESIVE Elvanol® 70-06 is a low viscosity, fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) designed to provide film strength and binding power in paper sizing, adhesive formulations and specialty applications. This grade of Elvanol® may offer processing advantages compared with other commercially available higher-viscosity PVOHs. Table 1 lists typical resin properties for Elvanol® 70-06. Elvanol® 70-06 provides tensile and adhesive strength approaching that of fully hydrolyzed commercial grade, Elvanol® 90-50. As with other fully hydrolyzed grades of Elvanol®, Elvanol® 70-06 is resistant to cold water, but dissolves readily on heating to 90°C (194°F) or above with good agitation. Compared with higher viscosity, fully hydrolyzed grades, Elvanol® 70-06 permits higher solids solutions at a given viscosity and temperature, or lower solution viscosities at the same solids content and temperature. DuPont Elvanol® polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH, sometimes also referred to as PVA) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer with excellent film-forming, emulsifying, and adhesive properties. This versatile polymer offers outstanding resistance to oil, grease and solvents, plus high tensile strength, flexibility, and high oxygen barrier. DuPont markets three types of Elvanol®: fully hydrolyzed, partially hydrolyzed, and copolymers. All are made by alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate (PVAc). The fully hydrolyzed grades contain few, if any, residual acetate groups; while partially hydrolyzed grades retain some of the residual acetate groups. The partially hydrolyzed grades dissolve in water at room temperature; fully hydrolyzed grades dissolve in hot (200 degree F) water, and remain in solution when cooled to room temperature. The copolymer grades, developed specifically for warp sizing, offer a unique balance of properties that make them the most versatile PVOH grades available to the textiles market. Elvanol® is widely used in diverse applications such as: adhesives for paper and paperboard, wood, textiles, leather, porous ceramic surfacesand other water-absorbent substrates; The unique combination of properties inherent in Elvanol® has resulted in its use in a wide variety of industrial adhesives. Water solubility - combined with high tensile strength, flexibility, and tack or tackiness - makes it one of the most useful synthetic polymers in the adhesives industry. Low viscosity, fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol. Resistant to cold water. Designed to provide film strength and binding power in paper sizing, adhesive formulations and specialty applications.
