Benaqua 1000 Derivative of Natural Polysaccharide Elementis Rheology Modifiers / Thickeners >> Natural gum SEALANT ADHESIVE >> Water-based BENAQUA 1000 is a water-soluble polymer, derived from a natural polysaccharide. It provides high efficiency and is a cost effective alternative to high viscosity grade Hydroxy Ethyl Cellulose. Applications Waterborne adhesives & sealants Attributes Cost-effective thixotropic agent for aqueous systems Provides stable shear-thinning viscosity over a broad temperature range Improves sag and slump resistance Has good water retention properties Provides good flow and leveling Does not interfere with color development Incorporation BENAQUA 1000 additive can be added dry to the formulation and will develop its gelling ability under high shear dispersion conditions. It is stable over a pH range of 6-11. BENAQUA 1000 can also be added as a predispersed water gel for viscosity adjustment. A flowable pregel can be prepared at 2%. BENAQUA 1000 develops a smooth, viscous, clear solution at pH 7.0. A pregel can be prepared by incorporating 2% BENAQUA 1000 into tap water under high speed mixing conditions for 10 to 15 minutes. The pregel can be then added to the system as required and is easily added under moderate shear conditions. Levels of Use The level of addition depends on the desired consistency of the system. Typical levels range from 0.3% - 3.0% by weight on the total formulation. Advantages of Using BENAQUA 1000 as a Slurry BENAQUA 1000 provides the manufacturer with the flexibility to retard the gelation process long enough to prepare, pump and transfer a low viscosity slurry prior to full activation in the final system. This is accomplished by pre-adjusting the water to be used in making preactivated slurry, to a minimum pH of 9.5. This will retard the gelation process of BENAQUA 1000, even under higher shear conditions. As the pH of the initial water is raised above 9.5, the gelation process will continue to slow. At pH 11 and above, a stable slurry can be produced with an indefinite storage time. Between pH 9.5 and 11 the gel retardation is between 10-20 minutes. When desired, conversion of the slurried BENAQUA 1000 to a fully activated, smooth gel is obtained by adjusting the system into which it has been incorporated to pH 9 or lower. The effect is not reversible and the resulting gel will remain stable, even if the system pH is once again raised above 9.5. Water-soluble thixotropic agent, derived from a natural polysaccharide. Can be used in water-borne adhesives and sealants. Provides high efficiency, good flow and leveling, stable shear-thinning viscosity over a broad temperature range. Improves sag and slump resistance. Has good water retention properties. Does not interfere with color development. Levels of use: 0.3% - 3.0% by weight on the total formulation.
