Rheolate 278 Elementis Rheology Modifiers / Thickeners >> Urethane (HEUR) Acrylics/ Acrylates ADHESIVE >> Hot-melt >> Pressure sensitive (HMPSA) ADHESIVE >> Water-based RHEOLATE 278 is a urethane associative thickener designed for use in acrylic and vinyl acrylic latex paints. RHEOLATE 278 is especially suited for formulations requiring enhanced high shear rate (ICI) viscosity development, beyond that available from conventional urethane associative thickeners. RHEOLATE 278 results in superior flow and leveling properties. RHEOLATE 278 is designed for use where high shear rate viscosity efficiency is needed, such as in paints containing small particle size latices and in high volume solids systems. Enhanced High Shear Rate (ICI) Viscosity Development. Superior Resistance to Syneresis. Superior Flow and Leveling. Excellent Film Build Properties. Excellent Formulating Flexibility. Non-Spattering. pH Insensitive. APPLICATIONS RHEOLATE 278 is an associative thickener designed for use in acrylic and vinyl acrylic latex paints. RHEOLATE 278 can be used in gloss, semigloss, satin and flat finishes. INCORPORATION RHEOLATE 278 is best used in combination with RHEOLATE 255 to optimize the balance between high shear rate (ICI) and medium shear rate (Stormer) viscosity. This eliminates the need to use formula sensitive raw materials (surfactants, glycols, coalescing solvents, etc.) to adjust Stormer viscosity. There are only three steps required to use RHEOLATE 255 and RHEOLATE 278 in combination. LOW SHEAR RATE VISCOSITY In the event sag control needs improvement, whether using RHEOLATE 278 alone or in combination with RHEOLATE 255, co-thickeners may be used. Low levels of co-thickeners such as cellulosics, or acrylic based, alkali swellable thickeners may be used. LEVELS OF USE Typical use levels of RHEOLATE 255 and RHEOLATE 278 are 0.25% to 1.5% (based on solids) on total coatings weight. The rheological properties result from association with specific coatings raw materials. The performance of RHEOLATE 255 and/or RHEOLATE 278 has to be evaluated in a complete coating system. Thickener used in adhesives requiring enhanced high shear rate viscosity. Provides good flow and leveling, good formulating flexibility, good film properties. Is non-spattering and pH insensitive. Solvent: Butyl Carbitol/Water (20/80). Typical use levels: 0.25% - 1.5% (based on solids) on total weight.
