Rheolate 288 Elementis Rheology Modifiers / Thickeners Rheology Modifiers / Thickeners >> Urethane (HEUR) ADHESIVE >> Water-based ADHESIVE >> Hot-melt >> Pressure sensitive (HMPSA) SEALANT RHEOLATE 288 is a high technology rheological additive designed specifically for waterborne clear coat systems. RHEOLATE 288 is a highly efficient polyether urea polyurethane associative thickener. It provides exceptional dry film clarity compared to many conventional associative thickeners which often cause hazing, stability or print resistance problems. RHEOLATE 288 provides high efficiency vs conventional associative thickener in the the midshear rate (Brookfield, Stormer, Ford Cup, Zahn Cup) viscosity range. It also provides a high-shear thinning index which makes it ideal for spray and dip coat applications as well as traditional brushing. RHEOLATE 288 is a 25% active colloidal dispersion designed for use in emulsion, dispersion and water reducible clear coats and high gloss pigmented systems. Primary applications include: wood furniture, kitchen cabinet, wood fixtures, appliance enamels and other applications where high gloss and clarity are required. Attributes Exceptional clarity in clear coats Highly efficient viscosity build at low and medium shear rates Shear thinning (pseudoplastic) rheology yields low viscosity/high-shear rate application performance, i.e. Spray, brush, roller coat, blade coat Good flow and leveling Non-ionic pH independent Incorporation RHEOLATE 288 is a pourable liquid and can be incorporated at any point in the formulation in most systems. Liquid associative thickeners are usually post added for convenience. Generally, they do not require dilution or pH adjustment. In sensitive systems or under low shear mixing conditions, further dilution with glycol or water may facilitate uniform incorporation. Compatibility The rheological properties of associative thickeners are developed by interaction with the other raw materials in a given formulation. The thickening efficiency of RHEOLATE 288 may be influenced by solvents, binders or surfactants. RHEOLATE 288 will provide a high viscosity at low and mid-shear and low viscosity at high-shear. If higher high-shear rate viscosity is required, co-use with RHEOLATE 350 or RHEOLATE 244 is recommended. Levels of Use Typical use levels of RHEOLATE 288 are between 0.1% to 5.0% by weight of the total formulation. Rheological additive for waterborne systems. 25% active colloidal dispersion / 75% (56.5% water/18.5%Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether) Provides good dry film clarity, high efficiency in the the midshear rate viscosity range, high-shear thinning index, good flow and leveling. Typical use levels: 0.1% - 5.0% by weight of the total formulation.
