Because RHEOLATE 350 is designed to principally develop high shear rate viscosity and modify the flow of the latex, a cothickener, such as RHEOLATE 300 or RHEOLATE 1 rheological additives, may be used to develop mid and/or low shear rate viscosity. If RHEOLATE 350 is used as the sole thickener, it will require higher levels of use to achieve mid range viscosity vs. conventional thickeners, but will provide exceptional flow properties which approaches the performance of solvent based alkyd paints. Recommended Order of Addition RHEOLATE 350 can be incorporated at any point in the formulation. Because it is a liquid, it is usually post added for convenience. RHEOLATE 350 does not require predilution nor pH adjustment as is the case with cellulosics or alkali swellable thickeners. In certain latexes, it may be necessary to dilute RHEOLATE 350 with water or glycol to insure an easier incorporation. It is best to test the ease of incorporation in the laboratory before incorporating RHEOLATE 350 into a production batch. Co-use with Other Thickeners RHEOLATE 350 can be used in combination with cellulosics, alkali swellable, clay and urethane associative thickeners. Information regarding the co-use with RHEOX, Inc.
