Thixatrol ST Organic derivative of castor oil Elementis Waxes & Paraffin >> Castor Oil derivative (HCO-wax) SEALANT ADHESIVE >> Hot-melt ADHESIVE >> Solvent based THIXATROL ST additive is a white, finely divided, non-discoloring, non-hygroscopic powder, completely organic in nature. Advantages Easy to disperse Higher incorporation temperature range makes it more suitable for typical high speed dispersers Useful in a wide range of finishes A true thixotrope Viscosity build Promotes pigment suspension Provides sag control without impairing flow and leveling Controls penetration of liquid into porous substrates Non-reactive with paint pigments and vehicles Does not affect water resistance of organic coatings Does not detract from paint durability Non-yellowing Excellent package stability Composition An organic derivative of castor oil Color White Applications Caulks, Mastics Epoxies Air Dry Industrial Traffic Paints Organosols/Plastisols Aerosols Varnishes Chlorinated Rubber Hammer Finishes Architectural/Trade Sales High Build Finishes Anti-Fouling Paints Asphalt & Tar Coatings Incorporation THIXATROL ST additive should be added at the beginning of the paint dispersing process, preferably by premixing in the solvent/binder for about 5 minutes before other components are added. THIXATROL ST additive is suitable for all types of heat developing equipment such as: high speed dispersers, sand mills, etc. (in dispersing equipment developing lower temperatures, such as watercooled roller mills and ball or pebble mills, THIXCIN® R additive is recommended. In such low temperature developing equipment the maximum efficiency of THIXATROL ST is not achieved). Maximum shear is important during grinding to obtain a fine dispersion of the swollen thixotropic particles. To obtain optimum performance with THIXATROL ST the recommended temperature should be held for 15-20 minutes during dispersion before cooling and adding the letdown. In sand milling operations, the dwell time of 15-20 minutes within the recommended temperature parameters must be achieved in the premix stage. Recommended Levels The optimum level of THIXATROL ST additive will vary, depending on the type system. A typical starting level is 0.2 to 0.8% by weight of the paint composition (1.5 to 9.0 lb. per 100 gal.). Non-discoloring, non-hygroscopic thixotropic thickener, completely organic in nature. Can be used in solvent-based adhesives and sealants. Promotes pigment suspension. Provides sag control without impairing flow and leveling. Controls penetration of liquid into porous substrates. Recommended solvents: aliphatic and/or aromatic. Typical starting level: 0.2 - 0.8% by weight of the composition.
