Santicizer 278 Texanol benzyl phthalate 16883-83-3 Ferro Plasticizers >> Phthalate Acrylics/ Acrylates Polysulfides Rubber - Elastomer (Chloroprene, Butyl …) PU - Prepolymers Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) ADHESIVE SEALANT Monomeric phthalic acid ester capable of reproducing the properties of polymeric plasticizers. It has a very low volatility, and mechanical properties such as attainable modulus and tensile strength are similar to those of high molecular weight polymeric plasticizers. Values obtained with Santicizer® 278 in the Linde silica migration test come very close to those of polymeric plasticizers; and, in relation to extraction resistance, Santicizer® 278 is again similar, although migration resistance into polystyrene is inferior. extremely low volatility fast fusion characteristics very low efficiency outstanding stain resistance One advantage of Santicizer® 278 over a polymeric plasticizer is that Santicizer® 278 has excellent fusion. Maximal physical properties can be obtained at ordinary working temperatures and within acceptable processing times. Santicizer® 278 matches polymeric plasticizers in producing rigid end-products so that the preparation of calendered semi-rigid PVC foams is another possible application. Advantages of plasticizer efficiency are often defined by how much the tensile strength or modulus of the resin is lowered by plasticizer addition. For example, if a resin (unplasticized) has a modulus of 21 M.Pa and plasticizer A at 40 phr reduces this modulus to 18 M.Pa, whereas plasticizer B at 40 phr reduces the modulus to 16.5 M.Pa, then plasticizer B is considered more efficient than A. Obviously, when the resin is cheaper than the plasticizer, the formulator will try to use the most efficient plasticizer because it takes less of the more efficient plasticizer to give equal plasticization. In the case of resins that are more expensive than the plasticizer, this reasoning does not carry the same weight. The formulator can lower his compound cost by using more of the less efficient plasticizer (provided, of course, that the compatibility limit is not exceeded). This means that Santicizer® 278 is an excellent plasticizer candidate for sealant applications in which polysulphide rubbers are used. This is particularly true in the case of sealants for glass insulation units when the very low vapour pressure of Santicizer® 278 (0.2 mm Hg at 200 °C) eliminates the possibility of mist formation and fogging. Monomeric phthalic ester plasticizer. Can be used in sealants and caulks. Possesses a low volatility, and mechanical properties similar to those of high molecular weight polymeric plasticizers. Offers fast fusion characteristics and outstanding stain resistance.
