Culminal MHPC 25 Methylhydroxypropylcellulose 9004-65-3 Hercules-Aqualon Colloidal stabilizers / Dispersing agents >> Cellulose ether Rheology Modifiers / Thickeners >> Cellulosic >> Methyl Hydroxypropyl cellulose (MHPC) ADHESIVE CULMINAL® methylcellulose derivatives CULMINAL® methylcellulose derivatives are cellulose ethers that, when dissolved in water, offer a variety of functional properties. CULMINAL products are granular powders, they are used as thickeners, protective colloids, stabilisers, suspending aids and water-retention agents in many industrial applications. Chemically CULMINAL products are ethers of cellulose and methylchloride, ethylene oxyde or propylene oxyde. These cellulose derivatives have been designated as follows: CULMINAL MHPC methylhydroxypropylcellulose These designations are followed by a viscosity number, as listed below. "R"-types have retarded solubility. CULMINAL is easily soluble in cold water. The product is not soluble in hot water. CULMINAL is a nonionic cellulose ether and is compatible with many surfactants and polymers such as starch, guar and alginates. Solutions of CULMINAL are pseudoplastic, some solutions show thixotropy. The solution viscosity is a function of the temperature, as the latter increases, viscosity decreases. When reaching the gel temperature gelling and flocculation of the polymer will occur. This process is reversible upon cooling. Viscosity is nearly independent of the pH over a wide range. Detailed information on the physical and chemical properties of CULMINAL methylcellulose derivatives are given in booklet 22.001, which is available on request. CULMINAL cellulose ethers have many functional properties, such as water retention, thickening and stabilizing action, binding ability, adhesion, protective colloid, suspension effect and emulsion stabilization and film formation. Typical applications are construction industry, coating industry, suspension polymerization, ceramic industry, tobacco industry, detergents and cleaners. Construction industry Culminal products improve bonding plaster and machine plaster massess based on plaster or limegypsum and in hydraulically bonding masses such as finishing mortar, fillers, tile adhesives and PM binders based on cement with water-retaining properties, for adhesion and workability. In plastering materials, jointing fillers, adhesives and application bonding materials, Culminal act as plasticizers, bonding additives, floating agents, and in finishing coats based on synthetic resin as a stabilizing and thickening agent. Tobacco industry Culminal cellulose industry are used as binders and films formers in the manufacture of reconstituted tobacco sheets and flakes, and as adhesives for cigarette paper and cigar seams. In the manufacture of nonwoven fabrics Nonionic cellulose ether. Used as thickener, protective colloid, stabilizer, suspending aid, water-retention agent, binder, adhesion promoter, emulsion stabilizer and film former in construction, tobacco and nonwoven industries. Possesses compatibility with many surfactants and polymers such as starch, guar and alginates. Provides pseudoplastic behaviour and thixotropy. Applications : construction industry (tile adhesives and adhesives), tobacco industry (adhesives for cigarette paper and cigar seams) and nonwoven fabrics.
