Nuosept 495 1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one International Specialty Products Preservatives / Biocides / Fungicides ADHESIVE >> Water-based SEALANT NUOSEPT® 495 PRESERVATIVE is a non-metallic, non-chlorinated liquid organic biocide recommended for use in emulsion paints, oil-in-water emulsions, tape joint compounds, water-based adhesives, tile grouts, caulks, sealants, grouts, ready-mixed cements, spackling compounds, aqueous slurries, titanium dioxide slurries, casein/rosin dispersions, textile spin-finish solutions, pesticide formulations and latices. NUOSEPT® 495 PRESERVATIVE offers many advantages. BIT, the active ingredient in NUOSEPT® 495, has a proven record of performance as a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent. The spectrum of antimicrobial activity for NUOSEPT® 495 includes a wide range of commonly occurring bacteria, yeast and fungi (see MIC data). The antimicrobial activity of NUOSEPT® 495 is not dependent on pH. The product is stable and effective over a wide pH range (4-12). Unlike other BIT formulations, NUOSEPT® 495 is low in VOC, non-settling, freeze-thaw stable, and may be incorporated into a product during any step of the manufacturing process. It is an odorless, translucent, amber liquid that is broadly compatible with aqueous systems. The amount of NUOSEPT® 495 PRESERVATIVE required to adequately protect a formulation is dependant on the susceptibility of the product to biodegradation and combined bioburden of the raw materials and potential contamination sources of a product. Our experience suggests that a 0.03-0.25% level of NUOSEPT® 495 by weight in the final formulation will protect aqueous products. The use level should not exceed 0.5% for any application. It is recommended that the selection of biocide use-level be based on an evaluation of NUOSEPT® 495 at a ladder of concentrations in the product. To arrange for microbiological testing of your product, contact your International Specialty Products representative. BIT, the active ingredient in NUOSEPT® 495, can contribute to discoloration (yellowing) upon heat aging in certain systems. Even though our NUOSEPT® 495 formulation is lighter in color, the potential for discoloration may still exist and should be fully evaluated. As with any formulation change, a full evaluation of the biocide package in your product formulation should be conducted. Odorless, translucent, non-settling, non-metallic, non-chlorinated liquid organic biocide. Used as a preservative in water-based adhesives, caulks, and sealants. Offers broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity including a wide range of commonly occurring bacteria, yeast and fungi, stability and efficiency over a wide pH range, low VOC, freeze-thaw stability, and high compatibility with aqueous systems. Use level: 0.03-0.25%.
