Ceraset Polyureasilazane Kion Corp Aminoplaste / Phenoplaste (UF, MUF) ADHESIVE KiON CERASETâ„¢ These are 100% "solids" liquids of low viscosity which rapidly solidify upon heating with a low level addition of a free radical initiator such as dicumyl peroxide. These resins are used primarily in ceramic-related applications such as ceramic binders, ceramic matrix composites, and ceramic coatings. Once solidified, these polymers can be heated to temperatures in excess of 1,000°C to convert them to silicon nitride and silicon carbide-contining ceramic materials. In the coatings arena, they are useful as carrier liquids for ceramic powders (formulated "paints"). Such compositions require no solvent and can be applied by dipping, spraying, or brushing onto (usually) a metal part such as an exhaust manifold. The part is then heated to at least 450°C to promote conversion of the polymer to ceramic. Such coatings are then durable at temperatures in excess of 1,000°C. Alternatively, we have found that by adding metal powders such as zinc and / or aluminum to these liquid polymers and following a similar coating protocol (but heating only to about 250°C) coatings having exceptional corrosion resistance can be obtained (automotive and truck frame applications, for instance). Ceramic Binders Ceramic Composites High Temperature Coatings High-Bake Corrosion Coatings CERASET TM Polyureasilazane Product Description CERASET TM is a liquid polyureasilazane that is readily thermoset to a solid by heating with a small quantity of a free radical generator. The resulting solid can then be pyrolyzed to either silicon carbide or silicon nitride by heating to 1,000 °C. Major Applications Powder binder, slurry casting, ceramic precursor infiltrant, ceramic/metal adhesive, ceramic fibers, and composites. Low viscosity liquid polyureasilazane. Can be readily thermoset to a solid by heating with a small quantity of a free radical generator. Used in powder binder and ceramic/metal adhesive applications. Can be used with metal powders such as zinc and/or aluminum to provide very good corrosion resistance.
