Surface defects, which detract from the appearance of the coating, also may compromise the integrity of the substrate. For many years, flow modifiers have been formulated into coating systems to enhance film properties by eliminating surface imperfections. Recent advances in coating technology, such as high solids, low volatile organic compound (VOC) systems and powder coatings, have reduced or eliminated the ability of solvents to overcome the effects of poor wetting and flow. Further, the vehicles which have been developed for these coatings often exhibit poor wetting and flow characteristics, increasing the frequency of surface defects. These trends have resulted in a greater reliance on flow modifiers to provide flow and leveling to the coating surface. Modaflow® AQ-3000 Resin Modaflow AQ-3000 is a acrylic flow additive for aqueous coatings. AQ-3000 is amine neutralized in water and contains no organic solvents or silicone. Modaflow AQ-3000 has been developed for use in water-reducible, latex, and dispersion systems and is compatible with a broad range of chemistries. Modaflow AQ-3000 promotes flow, leveling, provides surface defect control, and aids pigment dispersion. Suggested use level is 1-2% AQ-3000 solids on total coating resin solids. It can be readily diluted in water and introduced into the coating throughout the formulation process. It may also allow the formulator to reduce solvent content or number of surface modifiers in the coating. Silicone free, organic solvents free, amine neutralized acrylic resin in water.
