Viacryl SC 121/60LG Acrylic copolymer Solutia Acrylics/ Acrylates >> Styrene acrylic VIACRYL® Acrylic Copolymer Resins The VIACRYL® resin family comprises three main product classes differing in the mechanism of film formation: Thermoplastic resins, basically not containing reactive groups Thermosetting resins, reacting at elevated temperature with suitable hardeners or crosslinkers like melamine, benzoguanamine, or urea resins Self-crosslinking resins, reticulating at ambient or elevated temperature Both solvent borne and water borne VIACRYL grades are available, the latter being either primary dispersions (i.e. polymerized directly in water), or secondary emulsions (i.e. emulsified in water after polymerisation has been accomplished). VIACRYL® based coatings are used solely or in combination with other resins in the following application fields: Automotive OEM basecoats, clearcoats and pigmented topcoats Car refinishing basecoats Transportation vehicle topcoats Domestic appliances High quality industrial topcoats Primers, sealers and topcoats on wood (furniture, parquet) Masonry, decorative and architectural paints Can Coating (exterior) Road marking Paint formulations based on VIACRYL® resins have desirable performance characteristics. Depending on their momomer composition outstanding properties can be achieved in terms of: Gloss and decorative appearance Hardness Mechanical and chemical resistance Outdoor durability Thermo-stability VIACRYL SC 121/60LG Thermoplastic acrylic resin Sole binder for road-marking paints. Fast drying primers and top coats for nonferrous metal and plastic substrates. Copolymer based on styrene/acrylic acid ester Viacryl SC 121/60LG has excellent pigment wetting properties. For this reason even at a pigmentation level of 1 : 1 with titanium dioxide glossy films are obtained. This resin is compatible with all pigments and extenders generally used in the coatings industry, carbonate extenders in higher quantities can promote viscosity increases. A careful evaluation of such products should be made. Road-marking paints Viacryl SC 121/60LG was especially developed as sole binder for road-marking paints. Road-marking paints based on this copolymer have excellent adhesion and abrasion resistance, permanent flexibility as well as good whiteness retention. It is, however, recommended to first conduct a trial application under the given conditions to ensure suitability. Coating of plastics One-coat paints based on Viacryl S 121 show especially good adhesion to plastics such as PVC, acrylic sheet, polycarbonate and polyester reinforced components. Primers and top-coats on metallic substrates In view of its fast initial and through drying as well as its good water resistance Viacryl SC 121 is suitable for formulation one-coat paints and industrial primers. Coatings based on this product show good adhesion to steel, aluminium and zinc. For aluminium substrates a binder pigment ratio of about 1 : 2 should be selected. For steel a ratio of 1 : 1.5 is recommended. Decorative finishes are generally pigmented in ratios of 1 : 1 (binder/pigment) on solids. Viacryl SC 121 is less flexible than Viacryl SC 126. Thermoplastic acrylic resin based on styrene/acrylic acid ester. Used as a sole binder. Provides gloss, hardness, mechanical and chemical resistance, outdoor durability and thermo-stability. Offers very good pigment wetting properties, compatibility with all pigments and extenders, very good abrasion resistance, permanent flexibility and good whiteness retention. Gives very good adhesion to plastics such as PVC, acrylic sheet, polycarbonate and polyester reinforced components, to steel, aluminium and zinc.
