Benzoflex 352 benzoate ester Velsicol Plasticizers >> Benzoate ADHESIVE >> Hot-melt Benzoflex® Benzoate Esters Benzoflex® 352 Polyvinyl Chloride - Hot Melt Adhesives Benzoflex® 352 is a white crystalline solid with the very high melt point of 118°C that can offer significant performance advantages in a variety of hot melt adhesive applications 1,4-Cyclohexane Dimethanol Dibenzoate Benzoflex® 352 is a solid modifier with a very high melt point for use in hot melt adhesives and powder coatings to improve processing characteristics and physical properties. In hot melt adhesives, Benzoflex® 352 provides fast set times due to its high degree of crystallinity and high melt point. For delayed-tack adhesives, Benzoflex® 352 improves handling due to its high melt point and low blocking. It has good compatibility with a wide range of polymers. In powder coatings, Benzoflex® 352 serves as a flow improvement additive. It also improves appearance, gloss, impact strength and does not cause yellowing. As a processing aid for plastics, Benzoflex® 352 improves the flow of vinyls. PERFORMANCE DATA COMPATIBILITIES Benzoflex® 352 is compatible with ethylene/vinyl acetate (compatibility tends to increase as melt index increases) and block copolymers such as: styrene-isoprene-styrene, styrenebutadiene- styrene, styrene-isobutylene-styrene. It is also compatible with polyesters, polyamides and a variety of hydrocarbon tackifying resins. Based on solubility parameters, Benzoflex® 352 plasticizer would work well with other polymers such as polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl chloride/polyvinyl acetate and polyurethanes. (Specifically, the solubility parameter is about 8.0.) MOLTEN VISCOSITY Molten viscosities of Benzoflex® 352 and DCHP (dicyclohexyl phthalate) were determined by using a Brookfield RVT viscometer and a Thermosel unit. Plasticizer viscosity (CPS) at 115.5 °C (240 °F) Both products are low viscosity materials when molten and both are crystalline in nature. THERMAL PROPERTIES The Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) curve of Benzoflex® 352 indicates that this molecule has two melting points. Therefore, Benzoflex® 352 plasticizer has both high melting point and low melting point characteristics. High crystallinity is also indicated by the sharpness of the primary curve. Also, DSC analysis shows that Benzoflex® 352 has a delta H of 8.85 cal/gm, whereas DCHP has a delta H of 9.94 cal/gm. Since less energy is required to heat and/or to cool Benzoflex® 352, advantages over DCHP are achieved in controlling open times and set times. Actual DSC curves are available upon request. Benzoate ester placticizer for PVC - hot-melt adhesives. Compatible with ethylene/vinyl acetate, block copolymers, polyesters, polyamides and hydrocarbon tackifying resins. Works well with polymers such as PVA, PVC, PVC/PVA and PU. Provides fast set times. Improves handling in delayed-tack adhesives.
