Pioloform BM 18 polyvinyl butyral 63148-65-2 Wacker Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) SEALANT ADHESIVE PIOLOFORM® BM 18 is a polyvinyl butyral resin made by Wacker Polymer Systems. It is produced by a reaction between polyvinyl alcohol and butyraldehyde.PIOLOFORM® BM 18 is used as a binder in paints, printing inks and anti corrosion primers. PIOLOFORM® BM 18 is a physically drying binder which forms films through solvent evaporation. The films are odourless and tasteless. Due to the free hydroxyl groups in Pioloform® BM 18, it can also be used as a reactive resin or as a component in two-pack systems. For example, it can be crosslinked with melamine or phenolic resins. The corresponding mechanisms are described in our brochure Pioloform® Polyvinyl butyrals. The best solvents for polyvinyl butyrals are alcohols. Pioloform® BM 18 readily dissolves in ethanol, 2- propanol, n-butanol, methoxy propanol, ethoxy propanol and diacetone alcohol. Esters and ketones are less efficient solvents compared to alcohols. Aliphatic hydrocarbons and aromatic solvents do not dissolve Pioloform® BM 18. However they can be used as diluents together with true solvents (alcohols). Further information is available upon request. Sealers Primers (adhesion promotion/corrosion protection) Pioloform® BM 18 is readily compatible with the pigments and fillers used in the coatings industry. Its excellent pigment wetting property results from the presence of free hydroxyl groups. For pigment dispersing the lower viscosity grades Pioloform® BN 18 or BL 18 are preferred, however. Pioloform® BM 18 can be combined in any proportions with other Pioloform B grades. It is also compatible with a variety of other resins. Due to the large number of possible combinations it is recommended to carry out tests in the respective system of the intended application. As a result of their chemical composition, polyvinyl butyral resins produce very flexible films. If necessary, their low-temperature flexibility can be increased by adding an external plasticizer, which will also reduce solution viscosity. Pioloform® BM 18 resin is compatible with a number of plasticiziers based on esters of phthalic acid, citric acid, sebacic acid or phosphoric acid. In addition, polymeric plasticizers such as polyethylene glycols and urea resins can also be used. Polyvinyl butyral resin produced by a reaction between polyvinyl alcohol and butyraldehyde. Provides odourless and tasteless films. Vinyl alcohol content: 18,5 ± 1,5 wt%. Vinyl acetate content: 2,0 ± 1,0 wt%.
