Vinnapas RE 5044 N Vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer Wacker Ethylene copolymers - emulsions (VAE, EVC) >> Vinyl Acetate Ethylene copolymers, VAE ADHESIVE SEALANT VINNAPAS ® RE 5044 N VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N is a water-redispersible vinyl acetate/ ethylene copolymer powder that exhibits very good resistance to saponification. Because of its rela-tively high ethylene content, this resin is soft and flexi-ble. Its glass transition temperature is below freezing point. VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N is especially recommended for blending with inorganic binders, such as cement, anhydrite, gypsum and hydrated lime, in the produc-tion of construction adhesives, wall and floor trowel-ling compounds and repair mortars. It is also suited as sole binder in polymer-bound systems. VINNAPASâ RE 5044 N enhances the adhesion, flexural strength, plasticity, abrasion resistance and workability of modified compounds without appre-ciably affecting flow, thixotropy or water retention. It is therefore compatible with mortar additives used to achieve special processing characteristics. If used in sufficient amounts, VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N impedes the penetration of water. To enhance plastic-ity, more than 5 % VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N of total weight should be added. VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N contains a fine, mineral filler as antiblocking agent. It is free of solvents, plasticizers and film-forming aids. Tile and construction adhesives To obtain thin-bed, hydraulic mortars with good frost resistance, we recommend using 30 – 50 % cement, 2 – 4 % VINNAPASâ RE 5044 N and about 0.3 - 0.5 % of a high-viscosity grade of methyl cellulose and, if necessary, organic fibres to reduce slump. To obtain adhesives with greater plasticity, the proportion of re-dispersible powder should be increased, the amount of cement reduced. Adequate frost resistance is assured by the higher VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N content despite the reduction in cement content. Tile adhesives containing about 6 – 10 % RE 5044 N can be used to bond tiles to tiles or, if suitably formulated, to organic substrates such as wood-based materials. External insulation and finishing systems (EIFS) Hydraulic, powdery adhesives for external insulation and finish systems should contain 25 – 45 % cement, 3 – 6 % VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N and 0.1 – 0.3 % of a suitable water retention agent such as methyl cellu-lose. To obtain adhesives with greater plasticity, it is advisable to use no less than 6 % VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N, and to limit the amount of cement to 15 – 25 %. Expanded polystyrene sheets can be bonded exceptionally well with these adhesives. However, if sheets have been cut by hot wire, ensure that the surface is not too badly sintered. It is important to carry out preliminary tests on sheets of extruded polystyrene. Trowelling compounds and sealing slurries VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N is especially recommended for obtaining trowelling compounds that show high plasticity and good adhesion to smooth and organic substrates. These trowelling compounds have good adhesion to such substrates as rigid PVC, expanded polystyrene and polyurethane foam. VINNAPAS® RE 5044 N has a waterproofing effect in mortar when added in quantities of more than 8 %, and it is there-fore recommended as an additive for sealing slurries. Water-redispersible, solvent-free, plasticizer-free and film-forming aid-free vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer powder. Used for blending with inorganic binders, such as cement, anhydrite, gypsum and hydrated lime, in the production of construction and tiles adhesives, in powdery adhesives for external insulation and finish systems, and in sealing slurries. Shows very good resistance to saponification, relatively high ethylene content, softness and flexibility. Enhances adhesion, flexural strength, plasticity, abrasion resistance and workability without appreciably affecting flow, thixotropy or water retention. Contains a fine, mineral filler as antiblocking agent and polyvinyl alcohol as a stabilizer.
