Vinnapas RI 541 Z Vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer Wacker Ethylene copolymers - emulsions (VAE, EVC) >> Vinyl Acetate Ethylene copolymers, VAE ADHESIVE SEALANT Vinnapas® RI 541 Z is a water-redispersible vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer powder that exhibits very good resistance to saponification. Because of its relatively high ethylene content, this resin is soft and flexible. Its glass transition temperature is below freezing point. This redispersible powder is especially recom-mended for blending with inorganic binders such as cement, anhydrite, gypsum and hydrated lime for the production of construction adhesives, troweling compounds for floors and walls, and repair mortar, or as a sole binder for making synthetic-resin-bound systems. Vinnapasâ RI 541 Z enhances the adhesion, flexural strength, plasticity, abrasion resistance and workabil-ity of modified compounds without appreciablyaffect-ing flow, thixotropy or water retention. It is therefore compatible with mortar additives used to achieve spe-cial processing characteristics. The main characteristic of Vinnapasâ RI 541 Z is that it imparts excellent water repellency to the modified compositions. If added in very high amounts, Vinnapasâ RI 541 Z prevents the penetration of water. However, higher plasticity of compositions enhanced with Vinnapasâ RI 541 Z is only observed when the redispersible powder is added in amounts over 5 %, based on total weight. Vinnapas® RI 541 Z contains a fine mineral filler as antiblocking agent. It is free of solvents, plasticizers and film-forming aids. Vinnapasâ RI 541 Z acts as binder and water-repellent agent, without appreciably affecting water-vapor permeability if not used in excessive amounts. The water repellency of construction materials en-hanced with Vinnapasâ R 541 Z depends greatly on the formulation. Additives such as antifoam agents, air entrainers, thickeners, anti-flow additives, flow im-provers, superplasticizer agents, retarders, water re-tention agents or general surfactants can significantly affect the water repellency. The water-repellent prop-erties are much more pronounced with silicate fillers than with carbonates. Tile and construction adhesives For hydraulic thin-bed tile adhesives with good frost resistance, we recommend using 30 – 50 % cement, 2 – 4 % Vinnapasâ RI 541Z and about 0.2 - 0.5 % of a high-viscosity grade of cellulose ether, and, if neces-sary, organic fibers to reduce slump. To obtain adhe-sives with greater plasticity, the proportion of redis-persible powder should be increased, the amount of cement reduced. Adequate frost resistance is assured by the higher Vinnapas® RI 541 Z content despite the reduction in cement content. Tile adhesives containing about 6 – 10 % RI 541 Z can be used to bond tiles to tiles or, if suitably formulated, to organic substrates such as wood-based materials. Adhesives for exterior insulation and finish sys-tems (EIFS) Hydraulic, powdery adhesives for external insulation and finish systems should contain 25 – 45 % cement, 3 – 6 % Vinnapas® RI 541 Z and 0.1 – 0.3 % of a suitable water retention agent such as methyl cellu-lose. To obtain adhesives with greater plasticity, it is advisable to use no less than 6 % Vinnapas® RI 541 Z, and to limit the amount of cement to 15 – 25 %. Expanded polystyrene sheets can be bonded excep-tionally well with these adhesives. However, if sheets have been cut by hot wire, ensure that the surface is not too badly sintered. It is important to carry out pre-liminary tests on sheets of extruded polystyrene foam. Troweling compounds and sealing slurries Vinnapas® RI 541 Z is especially recommended for obtaining troweling compounds that show high plas-ticity and good adhesion to smooth and organic sub-strates. These troweling compounds have good adhe-sion to such substrates as rigid PVC, expanded poly-styrene and polyurethane. Vinnapas® RI 541 Z has an excellent waterproofing effect in mortar when added in quantities of > 8 %, and it is therefore rec-ommended as an additive for sealing slurries. , Solvent-free, plasticizer-free, film-forming aid-free, water redispersible vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer powder. Used for blending with inorganic binders such as cement, anhydrite, gypsum and hydrated lime for the production of construction and tile adhesives, in adhesives for exterior insulation and finish systems, and in sealing slurries. Shows very good resistance to saponification, relatively high ethylene content, softness and flexibility. Enhances adhesion, flexural strength, plasticity, abrasion resistance and workability without appreciably affecting flow, thixotropy or water retention. Provides very good water. Contains a fine mineral filler as antiblocking agent and polyvinyl alcohol as stabilizer.
