Vinnapas RI 554 Z Ethylene/vinyl laurate/vinyl chloride copolymer Wacker Ethylene copolymers - emulsions (VAE, EVC) ADHESIVE Vinnapas® RI 554 Z is a water-redispersible, hydro-phobic ethylene/vinyllaurate/vinylchloride terpolymer powder. It is used as a binder and to impart hydrophobic, ie, water-repellent properties. It is chiefly used in conjunction with inorganic binders such as cement, hydrated lime, waterglass or gypsum to make plasters, joint mortars, trowelling compounds and construction adhesives, or as sole binder for plasters, paints and adhesives. Vinnapas® RI 554 Z enhances the adhesion, flexural strength, plasticity, abrasion resistance and workability of modified compounds. The excellent hydrophobic properties of Vinnapasâ RI 554 Z derive from its special composition and production process, together with the addition of a water repellent agent. On alkaline activation, it provides the building materials with pronounced, long-lasting water repellency, with greatly reduced water absorption. Because of its low glass-transition temperature, Vinnapas® RI 554 Z, if added in sufficient amounts, imparts excellent plasticity to building materials, even at low temperatures. Vinnapas® RI 554 Z contains a fine mineral filler as antiblocking agent. It is free of solvents, plasticizers and film-forming aids. The water-repellent effect is incorporated into the resin during the polymerization process, but only develops fully on alkaline activation. In the case of formulations containing cement, lime or waterglass, this occurs automatically. Since the hydrophobic component is an integral part of the polymer, it cannot be leached out of the building material. Vinnapas® RI 554 Z acts as water repellent even at very low concentrations, without appreciably affecting water-vapor permeability if not used in excessive amounts. Adhesives for exterior insulation and finishing systems (EIFS) Hydraulic powdery adhesives for external insulation and finish systems should contain 25 – 45 % cement, 3 – 6% Vinnapas® RI 554 Z and 0.1 – 0.3 % of a suitable water-retention agent such as a medium-viscosity grade of cellulose ether. To obtain adhesives with enhanced plasticity, we recommend the use of no less than 5 % Vinnapas® RI 554 Z and no more than 15 – 25 % cement. Thanks to its excellent water-repellent properties, Vinnapas® RI 554 Z can be used in combination with other Vinnapas® powders such as RE 5044 N or RE 5034 N. Expanded polystyrene sheets can be bonded exceptionally well with these adhesives. However, if sheets have been cut by hot wire, ensure that the surface is not too badly sintered. It is important to carry out preliminary tests on sheets of extruded polystyrene foam. Solvent-free, plasticizer-free, film-forming aid-free, hydrophobic, water redispersible ethylene/vinyl laurate/vinyl chloride terpolymer powder. Used in conjunction with inorganic binders such as cement, hydrated lime, waterglass or gypsum to make tile and construction adhesives and adhesives for external insulation and finishing systems, and as a sole binder for adhesives. Enhances adhesion, flexural strength, plasticity, abrasion resistance and workability. Provides very good water-repellent properties. Contains a fine mineral filler as antiblocking agent and polyvinyl alcohol as stabilizer. Offers low glass transition temperature.
