Chalk Whitings are the softest of the three calcium carbonate based products (marble and ground limestone respectively). They are very soft resulting in less wear on mechanical systems such as, extruding machines. Coatings - Fine ground limestone is used as a filler and titanium dioxide extender in a wide variety of paints, coatings and printing inks. Rubber and Plastics - Ground limestone is a low cost reinforcing agent and filler for rubber and plastic compounds. The presence of ground limestone improves many of the physical properties of rubber and plastic compounds. Adhesives and Sealants - Ground limestone is widely used as a filler in joint compounds, wall tile adhesives, caulking compounds, sealants, etc. Paper - Fine ground limestone is used as a filler in paper made by the alkaline process. It increases the brightness and improves the printability of the finished paper. Other - Ground limestone is also used as a mild abrasive in household cleansers, as a carrier for agriculture products, as a dusting agent and in the manufacture of portland cement and glass.
