  • Arkema Kick-starts Production Facility for Methyl Acrylate at its Clear Lake Site in Texas (Jul 30, 2014)
    Arkema has announced the start-up of its new plant for the production of methyl acrylate, an acrylic acid derivative used in the manufacture of polymers for water treatment, elastomers and engineering polymers. This investment, on its Clear Lake site in Texas, represents the last phase of a $110 M investment plan intended to strengthen Arkema's rankings in the US acrylics market.

    Gevo, Inc. has reported an update on the progress of the implementation of the Side-by-Side operational mode of its plant in Luverne, MN. Gevo commenced the co-production of isobutanol and ethanol, with one fermenter dedicated to isobutanol production and three fermenters dedicated to ethanol production. This follows the company's announcement in May that it had begun production of ethanol.

    Franklin Adhesives & Polymers’ Covinax 383-19, developed for use in extreme environmental conditions, shows how tough it is during underwater testing for Section 2 of the Standard BS 5609: 1986, “Printed Pressure-Sensitive, Adhesive Coated Labels for Marine Use.” The coveted certification means that label manufacturers and coaters now can use Covinax 383-19, on suitable face sheet, for labels intended for containers storing hazardous materials.

    HERMA is causing a minor sensation with its removable and entirely plasticizer-free adhesive 42Lpp after its endorsement for direct food contact by the German test institute ISEGA. Approval has been granted not only for dry and moist foodstuffs, but also for fatty foods. The 42Lpp adhesive can be peeled off many surfaces absolutely cleanly, without leaving either any residue or an outline. This property is retained even after prolonged exposure to light and heat.

  • Intrexon to Produce Farnesene from Methane Using its Bioconversion Tech. (Jul 24, 2014)
    Intrexon Corporation announced its Industrial Products Division has achieved the bioconversion of methane to farnesene in the lab with its proprietary platform. Farnesene is a key building block chemical for diesel fuel, and also for other lubricants and specialty products, including cosmetics, rubber, and plastics. This is the second product, following isobutanol, which Intrexon has upgraded from natural gas employing its unique cellular engineering capabilities.
