• HERMA Unveils 42Lpp, an Easy-peel, Plasticizer-free Adhesive for Films (Jul 24, 2014)
    HERMA is causing a minor sensation with its removable and entirely plasticizer-free adhesive 42Lpp after its endorsement for direct food contact by the German test institute ISEGA. Approval has been granted not only for dry and moist foodstuffs, but also for fatty foods. The 42Lpp adhesive can be peeled off many surfaces absolutely cleanly, without leaving either any residue or an outline. This property is retained even after prolonged exposure to light and heat.
  • Intrexon to Produce Farnesene from Methane Using its Bioconversion Tech. (Jul 24, 2014)
    Intrexon Corporation announced its Industrial Products Division has achieved the bioconversion of methane to farnesene in the lab with its proprietary platform. Farnesene is a key building block chemical for diesel fuel, and also for other lubricants and specialty products, including cosmetics, rubber, and plastics. This is the second product, following isobutanol, which Intrexon has upgraded from natural gas employing its unique cellular engineering capabilities.

    Wacker Polymers is to raise its prices for vinyl acetate-ethylene and ethylene-vinyl chloride-based copolymer dispersions of the VINNAPAS® and VINNOL® brand in the regions Americas and Greater China. As customer contracts allow, effective August 1, 2014, prices will be raised by 0.03 USD per pound in the Americas. In Greater China, prices will increase by 300 CNY per ton.

  • Evonik and GCL Sign LOI to Build Plants for Production of Silicon Compounds in China (Jul 17, 2014)
    Evonik Industries and Jiangsu Zhongneng Polysilicon Technology Development Co. Ltd. have signed a letter of intent to establish a joint venture for the production of fumed silica and ultra-pure silicon tetrachloride in China. Evonik will hold a 60 percent share in the joint venture. The plants, which will have an annual capacity of over 20,000 metric tons, will be built in Xuzhou (Jiangsu Province, China) and are scheduled to start-up operation in 2016. The entire project has yet to be approved by the executive bodies.
