SBC Adhesives are styrene block copolymers. The unique qualities of the SBCs extend beyond their processing. Adhesive and sealant manufacturers can tailor properties to match a wide range of applications. Besides being strong, highly extendable, cost effective, processable, and easily formulated, the SBCs have other attributes that are very beneficial.
Styrene butadiene copolymers (SBC) are often used as the primary component in elastomeric adhesives, and they are also used as a major additive to adjust properties of other elastomeric resin based adhesives.
SBC adhesives are available in a variety of formulations. Often tackifiers, plasticizers, antioxidants, and other additives are added to SBC adhesive formulations when a high degree of tack is required in an application. SBC adhesives are used generally as PSAs in tapes and labels for paper, textile, leather, plastic films, and metal foils. SBC based adhesives are also often used in construction and packaging applications. A major use is in label manufacture.
