Butyl Rubbers
Butyl rubber is a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene. It has excellent air retention,
energy absorption and water resistance. These unique properties make it very suitable
as a base for sealants and sealing tapes. Most butyl compositions are one component
and many are used in industrial and construction applications.
Typical butyl sealants, as well as sealing tapes compositions, incorporate a phenolic
type antioxidant to prevent the thermal oxidation of the butyl rubber by chain scission.
Stabilizer blends are also recommended.
