Automotive interior trim parts such as the dashboard, the instrument panels, the gear shift lever or the door interior panels are expected to exhibit high aesthetics and long-lasting ageing resistance. They are often made of ABS, polycarbonate or even wood.
Polyurethane dispersion-based adhesives are capable of addressing these demands:
They exhibit high initial bond strength which allows high productivity of the parts in manufacturing
They produce stable bonds with excellent heat resistance
They have a low VOC content which promote a safe working environment
They provide long-lasting adhesion
In the automotive industry, vacuum forming has become established for laminating components in car interiors. A preheated laminated film is pressed by vacuum onto a door component coated with adhesive.
There are many products available in the market which are suitable for automotive applications which have a requirement for low-temperature activation. Additionally, they are especially suitable for applications involving temperature sensitive substrates such as those used in automotive trim parts.
