Textile
Functional textile materials
sometimes require specific properties like flexibility, durability, impermeability
and easy cleaning. Certain textiles, leathers or similar flexible materials are
joined in a wet-on-wet bonding process.
Polyurethane dispersion raw materials are capable of bonding different fabrics and
other fashion materials, even those that are considered to be hard-to-bond.
Since polyurethane dispersions are water-based, they have a
low VOC content and contribute to a safe working
environment.

Common processing methods to apply PUD product on textile materials are heat activated
bonding techniques and wet-on-wet bonding. During the wet-on-wet bonding
process the adhesive formulated with Polyurethane Dispersions is applied onto
the fabrics which are then joined together in wet conditions. The bond strength
develops during water evaporation.
Many products are based on amorphous and elastic polymers. They are suitable for
bonding textiles and other porous substrates used e.g. in the
wet-on-wet bonding process. They offer high heat resistance without
crosslinker and they can also be used to formulate 2-component systems with polyisocyanate
crosslinkers to increase the performance of the finished assembly.
