Wood & Furniture
In the furniture industry,
panels made from medium-density fiberboards (MDF) laminated with decorative
films such as PVC are widely used.
Adhesives based on polyurethane dispersions are the product of choice for assembling
these two substrates:
Polyurethane dispersions provide high initial
bond strength which allow high production through-put and optimized
use of the presses
They have a low VOC content and contribute
to a safe work environment
They provide long-lasting adhesion which is important for furniture with high durability
expectations
They provide excellent
heat resistance to prevent any delamination when in contact with
hot items (e.g. kitchen tops)
The 3D press technology is a common method used to bond the decorative film onto
the MDF panel. The 3D press used can be fitted with a silicone membrane (membrane
process) or can be "membrane-less" (3D process). Polyurethane dispersions are adaptable
to both types of heat presses.
