Viscosity Adjustment

viscosity adjustment polyvinylpyrrolidone Luvitec® PVP exhibits strictly Newtonian behaviour and will therefore not affect the rheology of the base formulation.

The rise in viscosity with increasing concentration depends essentially on the molecular weight or K value. While in the case of low molecular weight, such as the Luvitec® K30 grade, an increase in concentration for example from 5% to 10% has only a slight effect on the viscosity, changes by a factor of 5 or more can be found for the high molecular weight Luvitec® K90 type (see Figure 1)

Recommended Products
Polyvinylpyrrolidone Benefits
Luvitec® K30 vinylpyrrolidone homopolymer, low viscosity, used to adjust Luvitec® K90 viscosity
Luvitec® K90 vinylpyrrolidone homopolymer, high viscosity, preferred in glue sticks
Luvitec® VA-64 vinylpyrrolidone/vinylacetate copolymer, low melting point (90°C), preferred in hot-melts
