Getting the proper adhesive/cohesive balance when formulating is quite a struggle as one criteria is negatively impacted in favor of the other. Result is the tight adjustment room to develop the required adhesive, and limitations in performance may appear.
As an example, the ad of petroleum-based oil as plasticizer might reduce the cohesion of final product.
To overcome such a constraint, and ease hot-melt formulator's day-to-day life, DRT, key player in the terpenic resin field, has conceived Dercolyte® LTG (Low Tg).
Mainly dedicated to be used as plasticizer or tackifier, this new resin, under a liquid form, not only open wide the possibilities of cohesive/adhesive strength fine-tuning, but can also ensure higher level of peel and shear altogether compared to conventional hydrocarbon liquid resins.
The graph below highlights why liquid Dercolyte® LTG is the best compromise between peel, shear and tack after ageing for hot-melt adhesives.

Furthermore, the use of the very compatible Dercolyte® LTG, both tackifier and plasticizer, may imply:
- Less migration risk and ageing stability increase thanks to a reduced traditional plasticizer percentage
- Cost savings with polymer and additive quantity tight control
- Scale savings thanks a compatibility with a broad range of polymers, including synthetic rubbers (CR, SBR and so on ....)
- Low temperature adhesive (0°C) formulations thanks its very low Tg (-22°C)
Thanks to the latest developments of Terpenic resins, DRT provides chemically unique solutions with long lasting water-white color for PSA adhesives, such as hot-melt, but also solvent-based formulations for labels.
