and reduced health concerns during processing

Furniture made with sprayable SBC adhesives
  • Polymer: SBS copolymers
  • Application: Automotive trims, Furniture, Upholstery, Mattress assembling

> Key Benefits

  • Reduced formulation cost
  • Strong adhesion
  • Improved productivity
  • Reduced health issues
  • Good balance of viscosity

Your Challenge

Sprayable adhesives are widely used in different markets for applications like furniture, upholstery or mattress assembling, automotive trims, etc. Sprayability is closely linked to a good balance of viscosity, where a very low viscosity results in wasting the product due to an overspraying while high viscosity will limit the processing speed and so the productivity. Furthermore, spray means volatile matter with a clear notion of noxiousness in the industry.

The Solution...

The Dynasol technical team strongly versed in the SBC field has successfully developed sprayable adhesive formulations with high solids content while obtaining a low viscosity, a quite uncommon duality in today's standard.

The benefits, both economical and technical, are definitely valuable for formulators:

  • Formulation cost reduction
  • Sprayability optimization while ensuring the requested performance
  • Higher productivity and energy savings by adhesive viscosity reduction
  • Reduced health concerns during processing

SBCs offer a host of benefits over chloroprene rubber formulations

You can reach 60% of solids (very low VOC's) with the same viscosity and superior adhesion than a Chloroprene Rubber based formula with 12% of solids.

Sprayable adhesives containing 60% solids give improved adhesion and excellent sprayability
Figure 2: SBC based sprayable adhesives performances

Because of its narrow molecular weight distribution, formulators can directly dissolve SBC from the original packaging without the pretreatment (milling process) required by other polymers like Chloroprene Rubber .

Additionally, Dynasol SBC's develops very low solution viscosities, you can then formulate at higher solids to reduce solvents content and consequently VOC's emissions.

Thanks to Dynasol's know-how and SBC technology, formulators enter a new era of efficiency:

  • Improved productivity: reducing dissolution and preprocessing steps, usually required with other polymers
  • Excellent sprayability and adhesion performance
  • VOC reductions hence increase of solids content

A wide range of Dynasol SBC's is available to allow adhesives formulators to optimize adhesive properties balance.
