The Dynasol Technical Assistance Team has worked to offer the adhesive market alternatives to SIS copolymers and C5 tackifiers in Pressure Sensitive Adhesives application.
Formulators have now the possibility to use solutions based on the comprehensive range of SBS / SBS multiarm polymers. It covers from partial to full substitution of SIS with no major change on formulation.
SIS replacement with SBS copolymers
The 2 graphs below compare a PSA formulation based on SIS with one using SBS copolymers (Solprene® 4301 and Solprene® 4318) as substitutes.

Figure 1: Higher thermal stability (>120 hours) of the adhesive at the same level of stabilizer
 |
- Similar to better adhesive performance
- Maintaining the temperature resistance of adhesive (102°C)
- Cost savings on formulation thanks to:
- Polymer content reduction
- Tackifiers content reduction

SIS replacement with SBS multiarm polymer
The graph below compares a PSA formulation based on SIS with one using SBS multiarm polymer (Solprene® 9618) as substitute.

Figure 3: SBS multiarm Solprene® 9618 enables to enhance the adhesive properties
- Superior holding power
- Energy savings thanks to reduced viscosity
- Maintaining temperature resistance up to 105°C for tape application
By replacing SIS with SBS copolymers or SBS multiarm polymer you will benefit from:
- Cost savings on formulation (reduction of polymer and tackifier content)
- Maintaining the temperature resistance of adhesive
- Similar to better adhesive performance
- Energy savings (viscosity reduction)
- Superior holding power
- Higher thermal stability
